2024 Community Small Grants

Now open until Monday June 3, 2024

Since 2006, NECN and the Office of Civic and Community Life have partnered to provide grants to neighborhood and community organizations working to make Northeast Portland a stronger, more inclusive community. We have funded dozens of innovative and community strengthening projects that have collectively improved the quality of life in our area and brought its residents closer together.

The average grant size is $3,000 per applicant. See below for a list of our past grantees.

What we look for

Funding rounds take place annually, and are awarded based on a project's potential to:

  • Involve and benefit a diverse group of people

  • Build leadership skills, relationships and partnerships, especially with and among underrepresented groups

  • Increase community capacity to influence public decisions and shape the future of Inner North/Northeast Portland

  • Create unique projects with the potential to make an impact in communities large and small

Community Small GRANTs informational sessions

Potential applicants for the 2024 funding round are encouraged to reach out to us at admincoordinator@necoalition.org or call the NECN Office at 503.388.6088 to schedule a 1 on 1 info session.

To Apply:

1. Submit by the deadline of June 3, 2024 at 11:59pm PST. No applications submitted past this time nor incomplete applications submitted will be accepted. This includes postmarked applications. If we do not have your complete application by this time, your project will not be considered. Therefore, we suggest applying three days before the application closes in the case that anything is missing, so that we are able to notify you.

2. Be sure that you have thoroughly read and understand the 2024 Grants Handbook. For more clarification see the FAQs. If you need any help navigating the information or accessible accommodations, please contact us at admincoordinator@necoalition.org.

3. Next, download and complete the Narrative and Budget documents. These will serve as your working documents, where you will solidify your answers and keep for your records.

4. Complete the application here. You can save your answers (at the bottom of the application) as you are working on it. However, to be safe, we recommend keeping your answers in your Narrative and Budget documents as backup in the case that there is a mishap. This method of submission is preferred as it helps us keep track of all of your information in one place. However, you can still email or mail the application if this is more accessible to you. Please keep in mind that how you submit will have no bearing on your chances. Please contact us for an application in .docx file format to be mailed or emailed.

Contact our Grants Coordinator for any questions about the program or to discuss an idea for a project at admincoordinator@necoalition.org or call the NECN Office at 503.388.6088.
